New Top 10 List! Top 10 Halloween Reads!

Check out the full list of my Top 10 Halloween Reads to get into the Halloween Spirit on my blog Writer Girl in LA! It's an internet meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and I try to participate every Tuesday!

Here's 3 of my picks:

1. Someone At The Door by Richie Tankersley Cussick: Two strangers burst into a girl's house where she and her sister have been trapped by a blizzard... It goes from there. What I like about Cussick's books are that they're horror/romance and they're fun reads. Also loved: The Locker, Starstruck, and Summer of Secrets.

2.The Shining by Stephen King: It's the only Stephen King book I've read and it was great! In fact, I visited the hotel in Estes Park, CO where Stephen King wrote it because I thought the book was so great - I wanted to see the inspiration for the book. For those of you not in the know, it's about a family whose father is the caretaker of a hotel one winter and he starts to go insane...

3. The New Girl Who Found A Dead Body by Milda Harris: Yes, that's me! It's true, though. I would recommend it for a Halloween read. This book is in the vein of RL Stine's Fear Street Novels. It's a horror mystery: Chloe is excited about spending her senior year of high school in California with her friend Jake's family. Even the usual dread of being the new girl can't bring her down. That is, until she stumbles across the dead body of the most popular girl in school, Lora Kelly. Now she's receiving threatening notes...will she be next? Everyone is a suspect. There's her childhood friend Jake, who she's known forever and there's his girlfriend, Kate, who is insanely jealous of any girl in Jake's vicinity. Or is it Grey, the mysterious, handsome, and arrogant rich boy who has a passion for photography and Chloe is already falling for? Chloe doesn't know who to trust and time is running out before the killer strikes again...

STOP #8: MUSINGS OF A WRITING READER - On this blog, I wrote a guest post on writing The Funeral Crashing series! Here's a sneak peak at it: I find that inspiration sometimes strikes in the most unusual places. My Funeral Crashing Series, in fact, was inspired by a conversation I had with my mother right after a funeral. Who knew I’d find inspiration during such a sad occasion? We started talking about professional mourners and my brain started thinking over the information. What if a sixteen year old girl did that?  Want to read the rest? Check out the blog post!

The Making Connections Book Tour for Adventures of a Graveyard Girl continues for two more days, so keep following along with me!

New Top 10 List! Top 10 Childhood Book Favorites!

Check out my Top 10 Childhood Book Favorites on my blog Writer Girl in LA! It's an internet meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and I try to participate every Tuesday!

Here's 3 of my picks:

1. The New Girl by RL Stine - It was the first real YA horror book I read and I found it on my much younger cousin's bookshelf. I couldn't put it down and spent my whole time reading instead of playing with my cousins! RL Stine definitely has had an influence on my mystery novels and this was the first one I read.

2. The Hidden Staircase by Carolyn Keene - I only ended up reading a few Nancy Drew novels, but for a brief moment I was enthralled by her. I loved the mystery! It was also the first book I ever checked out of the library...

3. Remember Me by Christopher Pike - Another YA Horror read and still one of my favorites. It introduced me to Christopher Pike and his stories always kept me guessing, terrified, and in suspense. He was never afraid to take unexpected turns in his stories.

Hahaha - I did like other books besides scary ones as a kid - I swear! So, make sure to check out some of my other picks on my blog at Writer Girl In LA: Rewind! Top 10 Childhood Book Favorites! It's Top 10 Tuesday!

Chloe is excited about spending her senior year of high school in California with her friend Jake's family. Even the usual dread of being the new girl can't bring her down. That is, until she stumbles across the dead body of the most popular girl in school, Lora Kelly. Now she's receiving threatening notes...will she be next?

Chloe doesn't know who to trust and time is running out before the killer strikes again...

And, I have to share this - for a few hours, I was in between James Patterson and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle in the YA Free Mysteries section. They're two amazing writers and how cool is that?!?!?! I was so excited...I even took a screen capture!
