Best Gifts For My Book Characters! Happy Holidays!

The Christmas Ficus

I've been doing a lot of holiday shopping and it just got me thinking - what would I get the main characters in my books (if they were real) for Christmas?

Here's the gifts I've come up with:
  • KAIT LENOX from Adventures in Funeral Crashing (Funeral Crashing Series): (This book is still FREE btw!) I have a couple of ideas for Kait. If I went movies/TV: Harold and Maude (about death and funerals, yet funny) or Veronica Mars Season 1 (snarky teen sleuth). If I went books: Size 12 Isn't Fat by Meg Cabot or One For The Money by Janet Evanovich (both funny mysteries). Or if I went clothes, a cute shirt from Forever 21 (that she'd be able to wear to look cute for Ethan).
  • CHLOE from The New Girl Who Found A Dead Body (The New Girl Who Series) : Since she wants to work in the movie industry after college, I have a couple of ideas in that vein. Either some great movies (whatever caught my eye) or a book about screenwriting called Save The Cat or the book Rebel Without a Crew by Robert Rodriguez (about how at 23 with $7000 he made a movie and became a successful filmmaker) - both in the hopes that they'd inspire her to pursue her dreams even if murder mysteries continue to haunt her!
  • CITRUS LEAHY from Doppelganger (The Doppelgangers Series): I'd definitely get Citrus books because she loves to read! Some thoughts are Divergent by Veronica Roth to Easy by Tamarra Webber. Citrus reads everything so I could probably get her almost any book. Although, if I wanted to be helpful in her current Doppelganger situation, I might get her some movies, like: The Faculty or Invasion of the Body Snatchers or Disturbing Behavior or the TV series Roswell.
  • DREW from Connected (A Paranormal Romance): He's tough, but then again the guys in my life are always the hardest to buy for, in general. Maybe music or movies or books or a video game. He's pretty soulful. Maybe an itunes gift card. That would be the easiest. If I went books, I'd probably get him something like Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card or a book by Neal Stephenson. Or, a gift card to Urban Outfitters for some clothes.
That's my list so far! Wow, now I feel pressure to go do some more shopping! Happy Holidays everyone! And, happy shopping! Only 4 days left!

Connected (A Paranormal Romance) is NOW Available As a Paperback Book

Great news for all of you who don't have ereaders or just like physical books! Connected (A Paranormal Romance) is now available for purchase as a paperback book! Check Connected (A Paranormal Romance) out on Amazon! It's also available on Barnes & Noble and Createspace and other retailers! Just search my name - Milda Harris - or the book to find it!

What's it like? Well, it's similar to The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold as far as topic or Ghost Girl by Tonya Hurley as far as being about a ghost and the afterlife mixed with real life. Other than that it's not quite like anything I've read yet - it's a mix of mystery, romance, and science fiction. There's topics addressed like the afterlife, being a ghost, losing someone you love, and there's learning about life and death and what's in between.

Here's a synopsis: Drew's only memory of his life is the moment of his death. Leaving his life and memories behind, Drew thinks that he is on his way to heaven as he follows the pull of fate. Instead, he finds himself witnessing the birth of a baby girl, Aurora. He immediately feels a strong connection to her. Thus, Drew becomes an invisible observer of her world as a ghost and Aurora becomes haunted by him.

Sometimes Life's Like A Movie

My dog Licorice approves this blog post. (This is her as a puppy at the shelter! Cute, right?)

I have a silly blog called Life's Like A Movie. I just thought I'd write a quick post about it because I'm about to start back blogging on it regularly. Basically, the premise is my dog Licorice and I show you how life's sometimes like a movie. In addition to loving and writing books, I love movies too!  Sometimes the blogs are real, sometimes they're set-up, but they're all in good fun!

Check out my latest post - Life's Like National Lampoons Christmas Vacation

Happy reading!

New Top 10 List! Top 10 Books I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing Me (Hint, hint, hint!)!

Happy holidays from my dog Licorice! She enjoys decorating Christmas trees if you can't tell!

It's that time of year again - the holidays are rapidly approaching! And, well, you MUST make a list to Santa!

Check out the full list of my Top 10 Books That I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing Me on my blog Writer Girl in LA! Top 10 Tuesday is an internet meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and I try to participate every Tuesday!

Here's 3 of the books off my list:

1.The Iron King  by Julie Kagawa - I am so behind on reading...because I'm writing! I REALLY, really want to read this book! I started another series of hers in the meantime, which I am really liking!

2.
Clockwork Prince by Cassandra Clare - So many people have told me to read Cassandra Clare. I must read this book!!!!!

3.
Divergent by Veronica Roth - Another book I have to read. I loved The Hunger Games and I hear this is similar and totally great! Can't wait!

4.
Obsidian by Jennifer Armentrout - When I started researching how to market my book Doppelganger I came across this book (as being kind of similar). They're definitely different, but I now really want to read this book - sounds interesting!

Okay, make that four books, but I want all of them!!!!! Make sure to check out the full post on my blog Writer Girl in LA: Top 10 Books I Wouldn't Mind Santa Bringing Me! What books are on your list????

Movie Cast: Adventures in Funeral Crashing!

Here are my ideas on a movie cast for Adventures in Funeral Crashing! It's still FREE to download as an ebook, by the way on Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble Nook, Itunes, Sony Kobo, Smashwords, and more! FREE! FREE! FREE! It was #1 in Kindle FREE Teen Mysteries just the other day, so you know people are liking it!

What it's about: Sixteen year old Kait Lenox has a reputation as the weird girl in her high school, mostly because of her ex-best friend turned mean popular girl, Ariel, but maybe it has a little to do with the fact that Kait has a hobby crashing funerals. At one of these, Kait is outted by the most popular guy in school, Ethan Ripley. Yet, instead of humiliating her for all the world to see, he asks for her help, and Kait finds herself entangled in a murder mystery. Not only is the thrill of the mystery exciting, but more importantly Ethan knows her name! A little sleuthing is well worth that!

THE MOVIE CAST:

KAIT LENOX: A thought for the funeral crashing main character is Britt Robertson (from The Secret Circle, Life Unexpected).

A loner, a funeral crasher, your average girl...

And, yet...you can see what Ethan finds beautiful.

ETHAN RIPLEY: An idea for the most popular guy in school and Kait's crush is Daniel Sharman (Teen Wolf, Nine Lives of Chloe King).

The most popular guy in school...

SUZIE WHITSETT: For the quiet, shy girl maybe Laura Morano (Austin & Ally) would be a good pick.

 A shy quiet girl...

KYLE JONES:  For Kait's lab partner and the geeky science nerd maybe Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson & The Olympians, The Perks of Being a Wallflower).

Thinking a little geeky/hipster...

TROY MATTHEWS: For the cute college guy who likes steampunk art, maybe Alex Pettyfer (Beastly, I Am Number Four, Magic Mike).

He sure is hot...for a suspect.

Those are my thoughts so far!!!! I'm still missing some characters, but those are most of the main ones! I still need some ideas for Ariel, Kait's ex-BFF, for example! Any thoughts from my readers? Who would you like to see play the characters in a movie version? From main characters to lesser characters! Share your opinion!

I'm keeping the ideas flowing on my Pinterest account: Movie Cast Funeral Crashing Series so make sure to check them out and repin and comment!

P.S. It would be a dream come true to see Funeral Crashing as a movie or even a TV series on the CW or ABC Family or something! Actually, let's start a petition! :)

Doppelganger is NOW Available as a PAPERBACK Book!

Great news for all of you who don't have ereaders or just like physical books! My YA Scifi Romance/Paranormal Romance Doppelganger is now available for purchase as a paperback book!

What's it like? Well, it's in the vein of Stephanie Meyer's The Host, although it also has a Meg Cabot-like wit, sort of like The Mediator Books. That's how I'd describe it at least. Movie-wise, think The Faculty or Disturbing Behavior or even a chick-lit version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers

Check Doppelganger out on Amazon! It's also available on Barnes & Noble, Createspace, and other retailers! Just search my name and the book title to find it!

Happy Thanksgiving! And, a New Top 10 List! Top 10 Books/Authors I'm Thankful For!

Happy Thanksgiving! May everyone have a wonderful day on Thursday! And, in the theme of Thanksgiving, let's give thanks! Check out the full list of my Top 10 Books/Authors that I'm thankful for on my blog Writer Girl in LA! Top 10 Tuesday is an internet meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and I try to participate every Tuesday!

Here's 3 of my picks for Books/Authors that I'm Thankful For:

1. Meg Cabot - From The Princess Diaries to Size 12 Isn't Fat to The Mediator - I love Meg Cabot books!

2. The Hunger Games - It was just such a thrill ride and I couldn't put the whole series down.

3. Adventures in Funeral Crashing - Yes, it's a book I wrote, which is FREE on AMAZON by the way. It started me on my path to writing books again. It was the first book I published, the first book of many, and yet, it is the most special. I still love the main character Kait Lenox, even if she is a weird graveyard girl, funeral crasher. That's what makes her unique and interesting and it's what keeps me writing!

Happy Belated National Authors Day!

I HEART WRITING!!!!

Happy belated National Authors Day to all of my fellow writers! I love writing! And, I even wrote a blurb about it for Grub Street Reads on their Why I Write National Authors Day Blog Post, if you want to check it out!

If you read my books...I'd love to hear the answer to the opposite question from you - WHY DO YOU LOVE READING? Comment below!

The truth is I love reading too...it was how I knew I wanted to write! I love getting wrapped up in a story and the best books are ones that I only put down when I have to (only to pick them back up the first second I get!).

New Top 10 List! Top 10 Halloween Reads!

Check out the full list of my Top 10 Halloween Reads to get into the Halloween Spirit on my blog Writer Girl in LA! It's an internet meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and I try to participate every Tuesday!

Here's 3 of my picks:

1. Someone At The Door by Richie Tankersley Cussick: Two strangers burst into a girl's house where she and her sister have been trapped by a blizzard... It goes from there. What I like about Cussick's books are that they're horror/romance and they're fun reads. Also loved: The Locker, Starstruck, and Summer of Secrets.

2.The Shining by Stephen King: It's the only Stephen King book I've read and it was great! In fact, I visited the hotel in Estes Park, CO where Stephen King wrote it because I thought the book was so great - I wanted to see the inspiration for the book. For those of you not in the know, it's about a family whose father is the caretaker of a hotel one winter and he starts to go insane...

3. The New Girl Who Found A Dead Body by Milda Harris: Yes, that's me! It's true, though. I would recommend it for a Halloween read. This book is in the vein of RL Stine's Fear Street Novels. It's a horror mystery: Chloe is excited about spending her senior year of high school in California with her friend Jake's family. Even the usual dread of being the new girl can't bring her down. That is, until she stumbles across the dead body of the most popular girl in school, Lora Kelly. Now she's receiving threatening notes...will she be next? Everyone is a suspect. There's her childhood friend Jake, who she's known forever and there's his girlfriend, Kate, who is insanely jealous of any girl in Jake's vicinity. Or is it Grey, the mysterious, handsome, and arrogant rich boy who has a passion for photography and Chloe is already falling for? Chloe doesn't know who to trust and time is running out before the killer strikes again...

STOP #8: MUSINGS OF A WRITING READER - On this blog, I wrote a guest post on writing The Funeral Crashing series! Here's a sneak peak at it: I find that inspiration sometimes strikes in the most unusual places. My Funeral Crashing Series, in fact, was inspired by a conversation I had with my mother right after a funeral. Who knew I’d find inspiration during such a sad occasion? We started talking about professional mourners and my brain started thinking over the information. What if a sixteen year old girl did that?  Want to read the rest? Check out the blog post!

New Top 10 List! Top 10 Childhood Book Favorites!

Check out my Top 10 Childhood Book Favorites on my blog Writer Girl in LA! It's an internet meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish and I try to participate every Tuesday!

Here's 3 of my picks:

1. The New Girl by RL Stine - It was the first real YA horror book I read and I found it on my much younger cousin's bookshelf. I couldn't put it down and spent my whole time reading instead of playing with my cousins! RL Stine definitely has had an influence on my mystery novels and this was the first one I read.

2. The Hidden Staircase by Carolyn Keene - I only ended up reading a few Nancy Drew novels, but for a brief moment I was enthralled by her. I loved the mystery! It was also the first book I ever checked out of the library...

3. Remember Me by Christopher Pike - Another YA Horror read and still one of my favorites. It introduced me to Christopher Pike and his stories always kept me guessing, terrified, and in suspense. He was never afraid to take unexpected turns in his stories.

Hahaha - I did like other books besides scary ones as a kid - I swear! So, make sure to check out some of my other picks on my blog at Writer Girl In LA: Rewind! Top 10 Childhood Book Favorites! It's Top 10 Tuesday!
