The Losing It True Confessions Blog Hop and Giveaway!

Confession: When I was in high school I had the biggest crush on a guy who didn't know I existed. I'd write notes about him to my friends, talking about how cute he was or if I saw him between classes. I even once managed to gather the courage to ask him if I could borrow a quarter. Hey, it was a big deal to do even that. He didn't have one, but he talked to me! He actually talked to me! I also once ran into him at a Burger King over summer break. I just about died...and went to heaven!

That was it. I loved him from afar. Sadly, nothing ever happened with my crush. Oh believe me, I so wish it did! I actually wonder if he ever even knew I liked him. Maybe he did. I acted really goofy around him. Still, a part of me wishes that I'd taken a bigger chance and really talked to him, made the move, kissed him, done even more than that...even if it ended in rejection.

High school eventually ended and so did that crush. Funny enough, I saw his wedding announcement in the newspaper years later. It was very random that I saw it since I never read the paper. To this day I wonder why fate told me that he was getting married. Weird, right?

Still, that crush has definitely inspired some of my angsty teenage stories. All of that wanting made my imagination soar! Plus I read a ton of romance books and they definitely added to my imagination. Crush fantasies anyone? I had plenty and they all turned out really, really, really well!

Truthfully, looking back on that crush, it wouldn't have lasted. He's so not my type. He was a hot guy who played sports with blonde hair and an amazing smile, but that's all I really knew about him. Seriously. Besides, years later I met my husband - a smart, hilarious, super hot artist and he is so definitely my forever guy. I got my happily ever after after all.

The point of all this? I love writing about teenage angst. It's actually fun to write about when you're not living it. Besides, my characters get to make their romantic fantasies come true. They get to take the chances I never did in high school. It's like I'm getting a second chance while I'm writing about their adventures in love, romance, and sex.

I had so much fun being a part of the Losing It Collection. And another confession - this was the first losing it scene I've ever written. It was kind of scary. I wasn't sure what to write or do. It's just like the first time, funny enough. :)

I also got to meet 21 other very cool YA/NA authors. I had a great time collaborating with them.

I hope you enjoy Losing It! Mention it to your friends!

This is a 2015 Limited Edition Collection, so get it now! 22 scenes for only 99 cents! That's an awesome deal!

Crashing Prom Excerpt & Giveaway!

Crashing Prom is available for pre-order now!
CRASHING  PROM release week continues! It will be officially released this Friday, November 7, 2014! In today's blog I'll post an excerpt and tell you about a signed paperback giveaway of Crashing Prom!

First, the Crashing Prom EXCERPT:

Josh Evans was my ideal prom date. He was standing about ten feet away from me at his locker. It was now or never. There was only a month left until prom and if I didn't ask him now, he'd ask someone else first. I suppose it was also possible that some other brave girl might ask him too. I had to do this now especially since I was pretty sure that there was no way that Josh was going to ask me to the prom. At least, I didn't think so. I really wasn't on his radar. Sure, we had one class together, English, but the only time we ever actually talked was when we were put into a group together to work on a project.
The last time we were in a group together was a month ago for the Shakespeare section. We were reading Romeo and Juliet. The group picked Josh for Romeo, but I wasn't the lucky Juliet. That coveted role fell to Kerri Penn. I was totally jealous at first, but it turned out that she was a great actress. She really pulled the scene off unlike Josh, who turned out to be terrible. We got our B grade because of Kerri. Josh seriously couldn't act at all. It sounded like he was reading from the book for the first time even though he'd memorized his lines. Still, even Josh was a better actor than the other guy in our group, Ben Turner. I ended up helping direct the scene with Kate Yearly. I preferred staying offstage. Attention centered on me like that freaked me out. Still, it would have been perfect being Josh's Juliet. I would have gladly braved the stage for him.
I suppose that was still a missed opportunity for me. I could have spent time talking to Josh during that project, but I didn't. The problem was that I wasn't great at flirting. Other girls could flip their hair, giggle, and smile, but on me it came off as totally awkward and fake. I was the smart girl, at least in English, and my nose was always in a book instead of talking to the cute guy. In this case, I spent the whole time working on the directing instead of flirting. I doubt Josh even noticed me as a girl. I hated that about myself. I wanted to be better at the girly stuff, but I just wasn't. I felt weird and guys just didn't seem to look at me like that.
Sure, I wasn't popular, but I wasn't unpopular either. I was somewhere in the middle. I had plenty of friends, but no boyfriend. Still, all of my friends already had their prom dates. I was stuck going stag if I didn't find a date, although if that happened I was pretty sure that I'd rather not go at all. All of my friends didn't understand why I hadn't found a date yet. Prom was a month away. I thought I had time. I had only just realized that my time was running out if I wanted to go with my ideal prom date.
I watched Josh from my locker where I'd been watching him since the beginning of the year. I wasn't watching him in a creepy way. I just thought he was gorgeous and he was nice eye candy to spy on from my locker. It was ridiculous, but it totally made my day to just see him even if it was from afar.
I'd known him since we were in grade school, but somewhere within the last year, Josh had gotten super hot. He had brown hair that was a little long, really awesome blue eyes, and a body that had gotten really toned and tan since he'd joined the track team. I so wanted him to ask me out. The problem was that Josh hadn't asked me out and prom was in a month, so if I wanted to go with him...
I looked at the clock on the wall that signaled the time to get to class for the students. There was about five minutes before the first bell rang and it was now or never.

CRASHING PROM Release Week Begins!

Crashing Prom is available now for pre-order on Amazon Kindle!

My latest book CRASHING PROM will be released this Friday - November 7, 2014. Yay!!!! It's very exciting! I always love releasing a new book!

This book is something a little different for me. There is no mystery, sci-fi, or paranormal in it. Crashing Prom is just a fun, silly, romance book, although it's also about friendship. The main character is in her early twenties instead of in high school. Technically, Crashing Prom is a NA (New Adult) chicklit contemporary romance book and a new genre for me. Yay, new adventures!

Here's the book blurb for a little more detail about the novel:

Avery Rylee never went to her high school prom. It is one of her biggest life regrets. Now, at the age of twenty-four, Avery has many more regrets. She is stuck in a rut with her career and she has just been dumped by her fiance. After a night of cheap wine and hitting rock bottom, all Avery wants to do is lie in bed at home with a gallon of ice cream, but her three best friends have other ideas. They have planned a cross country road trip to the prom to help Avery start over. Step one is an Ex-Bachelorette Party in Vegas to help Avery try and forget her ex-fiance. Instead of forgetting him, though, Avery finds herself the star of her own web series. As a result, she goes on a filmed hunt across America to find a prom dress, a hot date, and a pair of amazing shoes. Will Avery be able to heal her heartbreak, survive internet reality show fame, and have the perfect prom?

Pre-order it now for Amazon Kindle: http://www.amazon.com/Crashing-Prom-Milda-Harris-ebook/dp/B00NLYBFPG/ref=la_B005E1RVT8_1_9?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1415057347&sr=1-9

I'll be posting quite a bit more about CRASHING PROM this week, so check back for an excerpt, a movie cast, a giveaway, and more!

CRASHING PROM Pre-Order for Amazon Kindle and the Cover Reveal!

Crashing Prom is now available for pre-order on Amazon Kindle.

My latest book CRASHING PROM will be available on November 7, 2014 on Amazon Kindle. Luckily, you can pre-order Crashing Prom now and get it that day! It will only be available on Amazon for 90 days in ebook format. I'm trying out Kindle Unlimited, but I'll be releasing the paperback that day as well.

And I know there will be some confusion, but it is not a Funeral Crashing book (those always start with Adventures in...). More Funeral Crashing is coming soon, though! I'm working on book #4 now! In the meantime you may want to check out this post if you are interested in those books! Crashing Prom, though, is a completely different book - a NA chicklit romance. No mystery, just a super fun read!

Here's what it's about:

If you like Sophie Kinsella, Meg Cabot, Lindsey Kelk, and chicklit books check out this latest NA chicklit romance...

Avery Rylee never went to her high school prom. It is one of her biggest life regrets. Now, at the age of twenty-four, Avery has many more regrets. She is stuck in a rut with her career and she has just been dumped by her fiance. Will Avery be able to heal her heartbreak, survive internet reality show fame, and have the perfect prom?

As the release date nears I'll be revealing more about the book including excerpts, movie cast ideas, and I'll probably even giveaway a few copies! Check back or follow me on Facebook or Twitter to get updates.

My Writing Process (With Pictures!)

Little Milda writes. I started young.

Thanks to Christina Daley for tagging me in this awesome blog hop (and find her on Twitter @cdaleywrite).

Now for the Q&A:

What am I working on?

Um...surviving twins!

My baby twins love to dance the night away...aka wake me up every chance they get!

Lol! And while that's true enough I am writing every spare minute I find! Appropriately, I just wrapped up a paranormal romance/ scifi romance book Doppelganger 2: On The Run which is available now for pre-order on iTunes, Barnes & Noble, Smashwords, and Kobo for a discounted price of $0.99. I am still doing a little work on alternate scenes from Aedan's and Doppel-Aedan's POV from that series to put in a final collection of the trilogy.

So excited to finally release Doppelganger 2!
Otherwise, I'm also writing two other books. I'm outlining Doppelganger 3. I normally don't outline since I'm a pantser (write by the seat of my pants!), but the Doppelganger series is so intricate that I think an outline will help me keep it straight. I'm also adding to a novel I wrote a few years ago for the 3 Day Novel Contest.  I'm tentatively calling it Crashing Prom and it's a new adult Romantic Comedy/ Chick Lit book, but it will probably be called something a little different eventually since I already have a YA book called Adventures in Funeral Crashing. The general idea: A twenty something year old girl gets dumped and decides that regrets aren't worth it. So, she faces her biggest regret, which was not going to prom in high school...and it goes from there!

How does my work differ from others of its genre?

Well, my genres are all over the place, but I tend to write about topics that aren't overwritten like funeral crashing and doppelgangers.

The only other funeral crashing story I can think of might be Harold and Maude and that's a movie.
I like having an interesting twist to my books. It's usually what makes me want to write a novel. So, yeah, I grab that one interesting thing and write away!

Why do I write what I do?

I write what inspires me and what I read. I've always loved YA horror and mystery, so I write those. I also love chick lit, so many of my characters tend to have a chick lit voice and there's always romance in my books.

I love love. Sigh. Romance.

How does your writing process work?

Well, it starts with coffee...

Lots and lots and lots of coffee.

Then I turn on my computer, stare at it, and then I procrastinate on the internet because I don't know what to write next.

Internet surfing rocks as a procrastination method!!!!

And finally, I start writing and try and type away for as long as I can. I'm a pantser for the most part (although I do have plot points I'm trying to hit), so I just write, write, write! Then when I get stuck, I procrastinate again (eat lunch, play with dog, call friends, the options are endless!) and the circle continues.

And that's my writing process! Now, meet another writer!

Happy New Year 2014!

Happy New Year 2014!

And with the new year comes new year resolutions and goals! 2013 was a crazy year for me. For the most part it was crazy because I became a mom...to twins! Because of that I didn't write as much because it was an exhausting, insane ride.  I'll admit that I was quite sad about that. I love writing and it drives me crazy when I don't have the time or energy for it.

That being said my goals for 2014 are lofty! I want to put out tons of books!

Here are some of the books that you can look forward to in the order that they'll be released this year:

  • Doppelganger 2 - Yes, it is coming out! I'm still revising it (eternally between twins feedings!), but I am hopeful that it will be out at the beginning of the year! This will definitely be the first book out this year. Citrus and her friends are on the run! It's going to be a wild ride of a book!
  • Crashing Prom - A new adult chicklit book that I'll tell you more about soon!
  • 18 Million - A chicklit YA novel that I'll tell you more about soon!
  • Funeral Crashing 4 - Yes, there will be more Kait Lenox and Ethan Ripley mystery adventures! Want details? You'll have to wait!
  •  Doppelganger 3 - I want to wrap the series up this year. I could tell you what this one's about, but then I might ruin book 2!

I actually have a few more books that I'd also like to write this year. Five is a good start, though! It's going to be an amazing 2014!

Happy new year!
